Net Neutrality... YOU deserve it!!!

When we log on to the internet we all assume that we will be able to access whatever we want, any website, application, blog, etc. We assume that we can make use of any service we want to, be it watching videos, chatting, checking our feeds, using Facebook, or anything. What makes all of these assumptions possible is known as Net Neutrality, and it's in danger.

What the heck is Net Neutrality?

Net Neutrality means that Internet Service Providers (ISP's) can't discriminate between various websites and any other online content. It guarantees a level playing field for all websites and online content in terms of speed, access and pricing. It assures that the only thing that discriminates between what you access on the internet is YOU. Please remove don't say " Hey, Google kind of controls what sites we find because so many people depend on it", because it is YOUR choice to use Google, however I believe Google does a good job from the angle of delivering proper results.

    Who supports Net Neutrality?

Many major companies such as Yahoo, Amazon, eBay, Facebook, Intel and Microsoft support Net Neutrality.

    Who is against it?

Many telecom and Cable companies want to be the controllers of what we view on the internet, and want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want to BLOCK or slowdown competitors services. Which mean you will NOT be able to do the things that you want to do on the internet.

Sadly, the lack of strong Net Neutrality rules can harm millions of people daily. Small businesses or websites that rely ion the level playing field that the internet provides, will be muscled out of the way by large corporations. I think this would mean an end to free speech and many basic freedoms. The internet will not be the place it is now if Net Neutrality is not in place!

How can you help the fight for Net Neutrality?

Go to the Save the Internet website which is a project of the Free Press organization.
All I can say is, "Do what you can to protect your rights".
